A rather long title! But today I’m talking the Yoga app I’m trying, and reviewing my latest read – Tapas Carrot Cake and A Corpse! Have you heard of it before?

This morning I have been unable to sleep for quite some time after a disturbing dream and so I decided to read until now. Whilst I am currently reading Les Miserables, it wasn’t the sort of book I wanted to read at 7am and so I decided to start Tapas, Carrot Cake and a Corpse by Sherri Bryan. I’m currently 52% through the book and am enjoying it but am actually surprised that where I am in the book is considered the middle! It seems the plot took a while to start, however it is really light and easy to read. But here are my thoughts so far below.

What happens when small-town murder meets a big-hearted café owner?

St Eves is a town with real community spirit. It’s a town where residents leave their doors open all day so that neighbours can pop in for a cup of tea and a chat. No one’s ever too busy for a cup of tea and a chat in St Eves.

But then a stranger is murdered and everything changes. The townsfolk close ranks — and their doors — as the hunt for a killer gathers pace, and it’s not long before inquisitive café owner Charlotte Denver is desperate for a return to carefree, small-town life.

Determined to do whatever she can to see the killer behind bars, she starts poking around in things she shouldn’t and discovers a secret that rocks the bustling coastal town to its core, and a twist in the tale that no one saw coming.

Small town murder was never so calculated…

About The Author

Sherri read her first Cozy Mystery in 2014 and her love of the genre began that day. Since then she’s read many more, finding new authors to add to her list of favourites along the way and enjoying the different approach and style that each author brings to their own Cozy Mystery stories. Apart from writing, Sherri’s main interests include her rescue dog, cooking, reading, watching crime and US political dramas and dreaming up new Cozy Mystery plots. Tapas, Carrot Cake and a Corpse, the first book in the Charlotte Denver Cozy Mystery series, is her debut Cozy Mystery book.

My Thoughts

I love a good crime novel. Especially a light hearted one like Tapas Carrot Cake and A Corpse. So the fact it’s a bit like an Agatha Raisin instead of an Agatha Christie makes for a nice change given the style of books I’ve been reading lately. It probably explains why I’ve been reading as much of it in one sitting! I mean, it’s not exactly taxing reading. And it’s pretty obvious that the book was written without doing an awful lot of research on the towns the book is set in. But sometimes you have to ignore the “true” side of things and allow creative licence to take over. I’ll keep reading, and fingers crossed it turns out an alright book in the end! I mean, I think I’ve figured out who the murderer is. And I still don’t get why a restaurant in a tourist town in England would close all day Saturday in the height of the summer season? But as I say, sometimes you have to ignore the realistic side of things just to enjoy a story. If you can’t do that, then I recommend you maybe don’t try reading Tapas Carrot Cake and a Corpse.

Time for some rambling…

At 8:45 I decided it was time for my new yoga routine. It does as it says – 7 minutes for beginners. An easy guide on how to get into the positions and an update wall that records the days when you complete the full exercise, hopefully soon I will progress to just 7 minutes of yoga! It sounds stupid but my outlook on today has already improved. It’s said that yoga and mindfulness can really help set you up for the day, or wind you down for the night.

Hope Sunday is good to you today!
