After yesterday’s rather ranty post, today I wanted to be a little more lighthearted today! And do you know the funny thing? I spent about 20 minutes staring at that flashing cursor taunting me with the fact that my brain was blank. It’s weird whenever all you want to do is write but you can’t actually decide what to write.
So while I sat on the floor of my living room, it dawned on me that I had an idea in the back of my mind that I could do. And I really wanted to do it differently, but then I realised that I’m hoping to write about 10 posts today, so this was going to be the best way unfortunately.
But I’m rambling! How’s your Monday going? I’m already up and out by the time this goes live, so I thought I’d better sit and schedule this in advance. Blogmas is being planned and organised, I haven’t completely failed at November’s blogging, and I have so much to do in the next few weeks that I am beginning to panic a little! And it doesn’t help that I’m still having problems with my tax code. But blogging is the only time I have to myself and to relax at the minute, so here we go again.
With it being so close to Christmas, and with me only just realising that I have over 460 lovely followers here on WordPress, never mind the 150-odd of you over on Bloglovin’, many of you don’t really know much about me! I mean, you read my posts (hopefully), you see my tweets, but what do you actually know about me? And it’s been that long since I last did a tag, that I decided to do a Get To Know Me Tag!
I took to the good old Google to look for questions, and found these ones below from Root Report. Just a little shout out to a blog I’ve not been on before but will certainly be calling back to visit! Even if there are a few grammatical errors…
But on with the questions!
Are you named after anyone? I don’t think so, I mean I am just “Katie”. My mum’s mum is Catherine but gets Kate for short, but when I’ve asked about it I’ve been told no my parents just liked Katie as an option. Same with Vanessa for a middle name – my mum’s cousin is called Vanessa, but I wasn’t specifically named after her. Again, it was just a name they liked.
When was the last time you cried? Last night watching Children in Need. Although by the time you’re reading this it’ll be Monday, so I should probably say Friday night. I wasn’t as bad this year with being emotional, until they showed us Vanessa’s story. At that point I became a blubbing mess and I’m not afraid to admit that. Probably didn’t help that she was singing some of my favourite songs either.
Do you have kids? Nope. Likelihood of ever having them is quite low too. Don’t even have a pet anymore to convince myself that I have parental responsibilities! Then again, I can barely look after myself at the minute never mind a child.
If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself? I think so? Well I’d like to hope so! I try to be someone most people can get along with, even if I am a little weird and awkward.
Do you use sarcasm a lot? Haha depends on the situation I guess! Sometimes? I try not to use it online because you can’t detect it very well, but in day to day life I can use sarcasm quite a lot with the right friends.
What’s the first thing you notice about people? Whether or not their smile reaches their eyes. Does this make sense? Like a fake smile, or one that’s put on for the benefit of meeting someone, doesn’t seem to reach the eyes. Or in a less formal setting, if a smile doesn’t reach the eyes it can be a sign they aren’t happy/comfortable, and I find it interesting to see.
What is your eye color? Blue. And not a particularly nice blue, but not like I can do anything about it!
Scary movie or happy endings? Happy endings all the time! In fact, I’m sitting watching Love Actually while writing this, and I cannot wait for the happy ending!
Favorite smells? Cut grass, lilies in full bloom, Christmas spice, and any citrus fruits.
What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?
Washington DC – a school trip in my final year at school. It was brilliant, and I loved the trip! We did New York, Philadelphia, and DC, and if I ever have the money I will go back.
Do you have any special talents? Nope… to be honest I’m nothing special, but I’m perfectly happy the way I am! I’m alright at singing, but only some songs. I can’t really sing “high” songs, but I also can’t sing low, so I constantly jump between octaves when singing along to songs on the radio.
Where were you born? Belfast Northern Ireland. And yes, there is an emphasis on the Northern there. Want to know why? Check out this post for the difference between Northern Ireland and the Republic.
What are your hobbies? Blogging, sleeping, reading, Christmas, knitting, singing, dancing, and cooking!
Do you have any pets?
Not here in Scotland. I used to have a golden cocker spaniel called Baron, but he had to be put down at the age of 15 back in August, and I’m still trying to get my parents to adopt a new puppy. However they currently have custody of Maisie – a cat that adopted our family. Technically she’s Rachel’s cat (and Rachel hates the way the majority of the world spell Maisie and insists on Maisey) but I am officially adopting her as mine too – sorry Rach!
Do you have any siblings? As you might have guessed from above, I have a sister called Rachel. She’s 19 (I took a second to think about that…) and is currently at Edinburgh Napier to study Midwifery! She also reads my posts, and is the only family member I allow to read them – so hi there Rachel!
What do you want to be when you grow up? Hahaha well I think at the age of 22 most people would consider me a grown up, however I still have a dream job. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, or at least work with children in one way or another. Of course, there’s always that dream for blogging to become a full time job, but I also realise that would take the fun out of it for me. On the other hand, my dream job (like fantasy world style) would be to run a bar and b&b in either Santa Eulalia or Es Canar in Ibiza.
Who was your first best friend? When I was younger, I had several best friends over the years. Even now I’m not afraid to say I still have best friends. I won’t name them here, because I hope they can guess who they are! But there are 2 definite people I would call my best friends, and it kills me I don’t see as much of them as I would like to.
How tall are you? Okay so I finally remeasured myself for the first time since I was about 16! I’m 5ft 8.11 inches, which works out as roughly 173cm. Which I used to think was either average or slightly short, but considering the UK average is 5f 5 inches, I’m actually considered tall!
How many countries have you visited? Counting the UK as individual countries (and separating Northern Ireland from the Republic of Ireland), and the States as individual countries too, I think I’ve been to 15. I think. I can’t actually remember, but we’ll go with 15!
What was your favorite/worst subject in High School? My favourite subjects were History and Maths, although half of that was because of my teachers! My worst subject was probably PE (physical education) or RE (religious education). My least favourite subject though was probably this stupid filler class we did called Learning for Life and Work. Biggest waste of 3 hours a fortnight! My school worked on a rotating timetable that spanned 2 weeks. So 5 one hour classes a day, 5 days a week, and 2 weeks of timetable so we constantly had to remember if we were on Week A or Week B.
What is your Favorite drink? Animal? Perfume? Drink would be a bramble, animal a dog, and perfume is touch of pink by Lacoste.
What would you (or have you) name your children? I have 3 favourite names for girls – Sarah, Bethany, and Lily. For boys, I like Christopher, Ben, Richard, and Peter.
What Sports do you play/Have you played? Okay so in primary school I was on the netball team. Mum made me play hockey even though I hated it, and I have played both Tennis and Badminton. I currently don’t play any sports, although I also took up Irish Dancing for a year! I loved Irish dancing, but the society shut down after a year, and I wasn’t good enough to join the official dance society at school. So while I would love to take it up again, I haven’t found somewhere willing to take beginners at my age.
Favorite memory from childhood? I woke up excited to go to school (aged 6) because after school we were going to the airport to pick up my granny and granda who were coming to stay for a week. I did my usual – run through to mum and dad to check they were awake, and they told me to go downstairs and open the living room curtains while they got up. I went running down the stairs, burst into the living room, and there my granny and granda were lying on the sofa bed! I was so confused and excited! Although I was also a little upset I didn’t get to go pick them up from the airport.
What phone do you have? (iOS v Android?) I have an iPhone SE in “rose gold” even though we all know the rose gold is really just pink. Since I got my first iPhone I have never gone back to anything else, and I got my first iPhone when I was 15 or 16!
So I hope you all feel you know me a little better now! If you have any questions you would like me to answer, leave them in the comments below and I’ll do another Questions and Answers post in the new year!
