Well the first book of 2017 has been read, and I’m quite proud to say that I sat down to write this review within minutes of closing the book!
You Are A Badass: How To Stop Doubting Your Greatness And Start Living An Awesome Life by Jen Sincero is the first self-help book I’ve ever read and I am actually so happy that I did. I’m probably going to struggle to review it, to be honest, but I can honestly say that it motivated me and made me really question myself in a good way.
The back of the book is as follows (is it still a blurb? Who knows, but blurb is a funny word):
YOU ARE A BADASS IS THE SELF-HELP BOOK FOR PEOPLE WHO DESPERATELY WANT TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES BUT DON’T WANT TO GET BUSTED DOING IT.
In this refreshingly entertaining how-to guide, bestselling author and world-traveling success coach, Jen Sincero, serves up 27 bitesized chapters full of hilariously inspiring stories, sage advice and easy exercises, helping you to:
– Identify and change the self-sabotaging beliefs and behaviours that stop you from getting what you want
– Create a life you totally love. And create it NOW
– Make some damn money already. The kind you’ve never made before.
By the end of You Are a Badass, you’ll understand why you are how you are, how to love what you can’t change, how to change what you don’t love, and how to use The Force to kick some serious ass.
Jen Sincero is a bestselling author and success coach who has helped countless people transform their personal and professional lives via her newsletters, seminars, private sessions, public appearances, articles, products, and books. Personally? I loved this book. Couldn’t recommend it strongly enough! In fact, I’m already sending it to someone else to read so they can enjoy it as much as I did. Sincero has a way of writing that is both humourous and to the point. She tells you exactly what’s wrong with you, but in a jokey way so it doesn’t feel like an attack. The number of times I had to stop reading for a minute because “damn this girl is right, it’s like she knows me!” was all I could think.
Each chapter is short and to the point, making it easy to follow like a day to day guide or a chapter a night kind of thing. I did it this way so I could fully digest what I had read, think about it a bit, and possibly start acting on it.
It’s a great read, and one I would strongly encourage you all to read.
