10 Things I Wish I’d Known At The Start

Having had a few days of not a lot of blogging, I decided to make a list of the 10 things I wish I’d known at the start of blogging.

  1. Twitter is your friend. There are so many amazing bloggers out there who can support you in every little thing. Sometimes you find these amazing people completely accidentally and find yourself getting really excited when they simply like one of your posts – this person is the one you owe a lot to. Be their friend and support them back in whatever way you can.
  2. It’s okay to not post daily. I struggle to actually post daily, sometimes I remember to schedule posts, other times I’m so far behind posting that I feel guilty for not being online 24/7. This guilt is completely unjustified.
  3. You don’t need to have a specific genre of a blog. Yes, it’s great to be so invested in a specific type of blogging but this doesn’t mean you can’t diversify and cover a wide range of things! Take a look at me, I review things, post ramblings, and rarely ever branch into fashion or beauty. I suppose you could say that I do have a genre then, but it’s an open one – one in which I can be as diverse as I want!
  4. Followers will stay if you disappear for a while. Everyone needs time off. I took a year away from the blog and came back to still find I had followers! This was great motivation to continue.
  5. Your statistics will fluctuate a lot, unless of course you’re a professional blogger, and this is 100% okay. Even last week, I went from 59 views one day, to 6 a few later.
  6. Scheduling Tweets makes life so much easier. Got a post that didn’t get as much attention as you think it deserved? Get it back out there! I use Hootsuite and its so easy to use. You should consider it!
  7. Try and have your photos preprepared for any posts that might need them. Pictures really liven up your blog and so having them handy is always a help.
  8. If you’ve got a list of blogging ideas, you don’t need to worry about writers block. I try and keep a list on either my phone or laptop as these are the 2 things I have near me when blogging.
  9. Join as many chats and groups as possible, through whatever platforms you can! There are always great people out there to give advice on anything and everything blog related.
  10. Blogging is addictive. Once you get the bug for it, it takes over a lot! So enjoy it and always hold onto the reasons why you started blogging.

Any other advice? Good luck to anyone just starting out!

Wishful Wednesday and other such news.

Okay before I begin tonight, I just want to apologise for my complete lack of posting over the past 2 weeks. Again, there’s been no real reason for it except I’m revising for resits and too lazy to write the posts earlier. Although I suppose when I first started out blogging I never intended to blog every day unless there was something worth saying.

So once again, sorry! Especially if you’ve been looking for me recently. I’ve recently started watching Scandal, especially when revising. Mary kept telling me to watch it, especially since I love Greys Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder. How right she was! Kerry Washington stars as Olivia Pope, a so-called lawyer who acts as a “fixer” for the rich and famous (sometimes infamous) of Washington D.C. It’s a great show and I can’t honestly think of a show I’d rather be watching.

If I’m being honest, my love for all things presidential at the minute definitely adds to the reasons I’m enjoying Scandal. However, I love seeing actors and actresses from other shows that I’ve watched appearing in different roles. An example of this would be Jeff Perry. He’s a fantastic actor. I enjoyed watching him act Thatcher Grey in Grey’s Anatomy, but now I adore him as Cyrus Bean in Scandal. I don’t want to give anything away really but Cyrus and his husband are so cute together and Jeff’s acting moved me to tears today at a certain point in season 3 – no spoilers from anyone who’s seen it!
Now that I’ve covered my TV addict’s part of the post, I thought I’d move onto Wishful Wednesday. Unless you’d rather I stopped that? Again, I’m not really sure if you’re enjoying it so please please please send me some feedback!
It’s been a long week. I’ve started revising morning, afternoon and night, with very little time for sleep or anything else for that matter. So for today’s Wishful Wednesday, I choose to pass these exams and graduate next summer. For obvious reasons (I hope) I want to pass these exams. After the exams, I will progress onto 3rd year. My desire to be a teacher is still going strong. Will I have to change the theme of my blog if/when that happens? Who knows. We’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it.
The past 10 days or so, as I’ve said, have mainly been spent revising. After a few days at the library, I switched to revising at home. Rachel finished her exams and to celebrate we had an Indian takeaway and watched The Lady In The Van. Now my rating of this isn’t very high, it was good but I’m not quite sure if it was good enough to deserve all the awards and praise it received. Definitely would rather have been watching Scandal. Rachel then went camping with Cameron for a few days in the rain, while the rest of us here in Lisburn went out for dinner which resulted in a rather interesting Sunday morning. Have I told you my uncle is living with us at the minute? I can’t really go into why or how at the minute so if I remember I’ll come back to it another time.

Finally, it’s 17 days, 17 hours and 50 odd minutes until we set off for Ibiza! I’ve never been so excited to go on holiday. Brief throwback to this day last year when I wrote Packing. Can you believe my blog is 2 years old? However, please ignore the adds at the top of the picture. It would be a miracle if I was pregnant!

I can’t believe it isn’t even 10 o’clock yet, I’m exhausted! Except before I go to sleep I still have some more revision to do. Blogging is a nice change. If I’m lucky, I’ll be going to sleep around 12:30am and get up again at 7ish to start over again. Why do I do this to myself? I swear to whatever anyone believes in, I will work even harder next year. I need to.
So goodnight! Wish me luck with Nuclear and Particle Physics… Maybe it’ll send me to sleep 😂
Happy Hump Day!

99?!

When did this happen?? I have no idea how to thank you all for following me and actually sometimes reading my rambles!
I am so so grateful for all the follows. Not sure how to go about celebrating but I’m definitely going to do something when I reach 100 followers – so comment with suggestions!

Thank you once again!

I’m back

Sorry for leaving you all for so long, dad’s uncle died hours after my post “First day of summer”  and it hit harder than any of us expected to. The last week and a half have been hectic and to clear our heads we went away for a while.
Today is the GCSE results day and Rachel got her results – 5A*s and 5 As! Cheeky little madam did better than me… Although she did get a tutor… Should tutors be allowed? And should there be so many different boards for exams? I don’t know *sighs*
Her boyfriend got his A level results last week and is going to Newcastle University! So as Rachel’s birthday present I have bought her a weekend in Newcastle with him. Problem is I have no idea how to give it to her. I don’t want to have mum and dad just hand her card on her birthday because I know she likes having something to open. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! I had considered a jigsaw that said “you’re going to Newcastle” but if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate them.
Thanks!

Birthdays

This evening, mum started asking about what Rachel and I would like for our birthdays. They aren’t until September and they’re 9 days apart. With Rachel turning 17 it’s easy to say she’ll get driving lessons and something small to go along side these – she automatically said Soap and Glory and some shampoos etc. I, on the other hand, have no idea.

Well actually that’s a bit of a lie… However what I want I know I’ve no hope of getting if I ask her. I’d love some Carmilla merchandise off a website I found. You know, cushions, posters, maybe even bedding… But I’ve no hope of that once my parents find out what Carmilla actually is. They’re against vampires and definitely against lesbian vampires. And lesbians… And anyone who isn’t straight… So yeah, that’s that option out the window.

Next on the list would be books and DVDs or something along those lines. But “what’s the point in a book if you’ve got a kindle and a library?” is their next question. And why would you want to watch a film more than once? You already know the ending.

And then there’s the ongoing plea for socks and underwear. Every year they appear on the list and every year they’re ignored.
I know I sound selfish or like I’m complaining… And yes I am to an extent. But my point in all this is, why ask someone what they want if you aren’t going to get it for them? Mum laughs when I bring this up but for years every birthday, Christmas and Easter I begged for a kitty kitty kitten. One year I even told Santa he could hide it in my room and mum would never know! How naive I was… But that’s been an ongoing joke for years now.

This year they’ve offered to buy a telescope for me. Now this I certainly would agree with! But finding a decent telescope in their price range is going to be impossible. I could trade in my laptop for a better one… Or ask them for a new TV for my room for when I come back to visit. Except I don’t plan on coming home much after this year… Haven’t broken the news to them yet…
But for now, any suggestions on birthday ideas for my 20th would be greatly appreciated! Or even an idea as to what I should get Rachel?

Thanks!
