January 2021 and Happy New Year

And so a new year begins! I’d normally be spouting something cheerful or positive about the fact that we’re saying goodbye to another year. But I think we’re all in agreement that between yesterday and today there’s very little difference. However, as we welcome in January 2021, I can’t help but be a little hopeful.

As I was saying, January 2021 is looking a little brighter than previous months. A second vaccine has been approved, and the usual “New Year New Goals” attitude has hit me! Yes, it’ll be a long time before the vaccine is distributed to everyone who wants it. And a lot of the UK woke up yesterday in even more strict restrictions (hello from Northern Ireland where we’re in our third full lockdown since March!). But we do still have a lot to look forward to in 2021.

December 2020

If you remember my post yesterday – 2020 In Review – then I don’t really need to recap December. Did you miss it? Open it in a new tab there and read it when we’re done here! Otherwise, my short summary is I was off work for 2 working weeks, celebrated 3 birthdays, managed to go for 1 meal out between lockdowns, was in work for 5 days, and then Christmas. I didn’t really do a lot, but it seemed to take it out of me! However, it’s about time we looked at the goals I set back in December 2020 to see how we got on with them!

December 2020 Goals

  1. Complete Blogmas.
Okay I managed 26 days in a row, missed the 27th (was meant to have a guest post) and 28th (really was too tired to write), and then posted the last 3 days of the month. So we could take it as I successfully posted for the 25 days of Blogmas? But I failed my 32 days of consecutive posting… So I’m gonna give myself a 7 out of 10 for this one.
  2. Complete my Instagram photo Challenge.
Yeah no this collapsed around the 18th December… I had been doing so well though! But I actually found I lost followers when posting daily? Strange.
  3. Read 1 book.
Now this one I achieved! I actually managed to finish 4 books in December, all of which you can find out about in my post all about what I read in 2020.

Okay so that wasn’t great… will we just skip over December and jump straight to the new month?

January 2021

Well here we are in January 2021, and things aren’t looking to change that much. I’m still going to be working 4 days a week (currently correct at time of writing!), starting back Monday 4th. Then on Thursday, my day off, Dad has arranged for me to take Maisey to the vets for her annual injections and check-up. But this weekend will probably be spent just taking down the Christmas decorations, cleaning, and getting set up for a new year. Anyway, onwards with January 2021! So yes, this coming week will be spent in work. As I was saying, work doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon. We have Dad’s 65th birthday coming towards the end of the month. Overall, we have another month of lockdown. So nothing is happening. Kinda sucks, am I right? But let’s set some goals for January 2021!

Speaking of, I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to remember to say! Actually, some of you have probably heard already, but I have launched a second blog! It’s called Christmas With Katie, and the aim of being over there is to have some Christmas cheer all through the year. Head on over to enjoy a little fun! Yes, I’ll talk to you more about that at a later stage, rather than bulking out this post.

January 2021 Goals

  1. Read 1 book.
  2. Post twice on each blog.
  3. Walk 5k steps a day
  4. No Spend January (unless on essentials or into savings)

Wait! We never set New Year’s Resolutions!

I just realised I never set any New Year’s Resolutions yesterday. Well, I set them. I just never shared them with you. As a result, let me share my New Year’s Resolutions with you!

Resolutions for 2021

Now, you may be expecting this to be a bit like the last few years’ posts. However, I decided that for 2021 I would pick a theme. As a result, I took to thinking. And one conversation with a person stayed with me for weeks after. They pointed out that I am that much of a people pleaser that it’s no wonder I don’t know who I am. If you’re always putting yourself second, third or fourth, then how can you expect to understand what it is you actually like or enjoy or feel? How can you decide what you want from life? Based on this conversation, my theme for 2021 is focusing on me. As such, all my resolutions are around this theme. And my blog. Because that is very much for me.

  1. Reduce consumption of coffee and sugar.
  2. Walk a minimum 5K steps a day
  3. Drink 2 litres of water a day.
  4. Sleep better.
  5. End the year debt free.
  6. Have a 5% deposit saved for a house (to build on in 2022)
  7. Read 18 books.
  8. Improve at guitar and learn finger picking!
  9. Make time for self care and self love.
  10. Live in a tidy bedroom.
  11. Get the DA for this blog to 30, and my new blog to 10.
  12. Increase my Twitter followers to 12K
  13. Get my blog following for this blog to 1000, and 100 for the new blog!
  14. Earn enough through blogging to clear my credit card this year.

What goals have you set yourself for 2021? Let me know in the comments below!

Thanks Linz! Here’s hoping it’s one that sticks! I know, but I’m quite pleased to say I now have a few days off until the next post goes live! Thanks so much for your kind words and support 💖 xx

Happy 2021 Katie! I think you did an amazing job with Blogmas, especially publishing as many posts as you did. It’s a great idea to focus on yourself this year. I wish you a happy, healthy and successful 2021 x

Happy New Year Katie. And thanks for inspiring me to do Blogmas. I think you’ve earned more than 7/10 for everything you did for the rest of us. 🙂

I will be publishing my goals post next week but we definitely have one goal in common – cut down on sugar! It’s my biggest weakness.
