Oops… So we’re a little further into February 2022 than I expected for this post. But it’s been a busy few weeks behind the scenes. Such is life in this getting-back-to-normal world! Before I take you through what’s coming up over the next few weeks (trust me, it’s a lot), let’s look back at January!
I’ve always disliked February. For the shortest month of the year, it seems that pay day never comes, the sun rarely shines, it’s cold and wet and miserable. But. February 2022 is looking set to be different! Especially when I think back to February 2021… it’s not quite the way February 2020 was, but not far off it!
Normally around now I would be apologising for disappearing off the face of the earth for over a month… but I’m not going to do that. Remember in my last post when I talked about the changes that have come with blogging over the years? Well, one is the insane pressure to keep up. Whether that be with the topics on trend (finance, Pinterest, blogging bloggers etc), or just the pressure to post regularly. I seem to pile the pressure on to post regularly, even though often my posts aren’t always of any real substance. But when I step away from the laptop and just live my life for a while, the keyboard calls me back eventually. Which is why I took that break from posting. However, onwards and upwards! Before we can look forward, we have to look back, and so without further delay, let’s look back at January 2022.
January 2022 started with a duvet day, and me feeling extremely sorry for myself. It seems I can no longer drink as much as I used to. Or maybe it was the food… either way, something in my stomach was unimpressed, and I was a little ill on New Year’s Day. Wasn’t everyone over a certain age? But after a duvet day, we spent 2nd January having a lunch with Granny, and taking down decorations. It was sad to see them go, but I was delighted to be able to clean again properly. Then it was back to work on the Tuesday, which was a bit of a shock to the system. It seems everyone has decided the pandemic is over and the fabric trade has gone into one! I’m not complaining, but it was surprising how unprepared I was for the amount of work needing done. But the week ended with me having a Friday half day, some retail therapy and a trip to The Speckled Hen to mark the end of the first week of the year.
The weekend saw me meet the newest addition to the family – baby Olivia! I can’t remember if I mentioned that my cousin had a baby just before Christmas, so I went round to visit them and see some other family members there for a post-Christmas get together. Another busy week of work lead to me feeling a bit low – just the stress of work and not feeling right in general. But that week I got back to my guitar lessons, and I got playing with a dog again! Which was a good way to break the cycle. The weekend ended with a meal at Granny’s and a generally good weekend of behind-the-scenes blog admin.
As the next week began, I started to get sorted for Dad’s birthday. His present from me was a new zip-up and bottoms from M&S that he could wear around the house or when gardening. But Mum had bought him tickets to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time at the Belfast Grand Opera House, and we took him for dinner in the Europa Hotel before hand. It was a fantastic night at the theatre, and I highly recommend you go see it if you ever get the chance! Thursday saw me at guitar, and then Friday night we were part of the virtual audience for Just A Minute. It was incredible. I laughed so much, I genuinely was crying with laughter. There hasn’t been a date announced for the new series to begin on the radio, but I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for it.
On the Saturday morning, I headed out to volunteer at our local animal shelter. They had requested volunteers to come walk their dogs at the weekend to allow the staff time to clean the enclosures and prepare for the week ahead. Plus it socialises the dogs, and we were coached briefly on teaching them to walk on the lead. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and came home wanting to adopt every dog I had the pleasure of interacting with. But Mum wasn’t up for hearing about it as she wasn’t feeling well. She took a LFT which came back negative, but she ended up staying in bed most of the day. On Sunday, Dad and I were getting through the to do list, when Mum tested positive for covid. The joys… so we left her to go do some DIY for Granny. Who decided to do a test while we were there. And it was also positive. I don’t think Dad and I could’ve got out of there any sooner! So the following week was purely into work, then home to stay away from Mum. And by the end of the week, suddenly Mum was testing negative again! The weekend was taken up then doing things with Mum, and then I was back to work. So I say it was busy, but really I seem to have just spent the last 2 weeks trying to avoid catching covid whether inside the house or out in public. However, now Rachel has it, and would you believe there’s a part of me with FOMO? Like, not even covid wants me! Not that I want it, but it’s just strange.
January 2022 Goals
So during all that fun and games, I tried my best to achieve the goals set out in January before we started February 2022. Shall we look and see exactly how I got on?
- Read 2 books
Well I definitely achieved this! In fact, I finished 6 books in January 2022! Lord of the Rings The Two Towers and The Return of the Ring, Girl A, The Skull Beneath The Skin, Make Your Bed, and When He Was Wicked (a Bridgerton novel). I’m actually seriously impressed with that!
- Post twice on each blog
I think we all know I failed on this count. I posted once here on Life With Ktkinnes. I did draft several posts, but none of them were finished on time to share. On the other hand, I did get 2 posts posted on Christmas With Katie! Did you read them?
- Perfect the new scale for guitar
Actually yes! It’s not 100% perfect, but it’s certainly a lot better than my first day of playing it. So much so I’ve actually started to learn another new scale!
- Reduce how much bread I eat
Well, I did manage to reduce my intake of bread. But not over every meal. I just like it too much!
Actually that wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. See? Keeping your goals small helps you achieve them! Onwards to February 2022 I think.
Well, as you know, we’re officially a week into February 2022 now. Potentially over a week if I’m being truly fair. This time last week, I was at work. Well, not quite not this time last week. But I was awake, taking another LFT, and preparing to go to work. I had a guitar lesson, during which I played and sang on my own for a while for the first time – scary stuff! It’s very rare I can sing and play together; my hands don’t like to play if I’m thinking about words. But it was nice to do for a change. Thursday I sat and cringed at The Apprentice, and then Friday came bringing a night in the house watching Ulster play rugby on the TV. It was a good win for the team, and set us up for a good night in. Saturday was the start of the Six Nations, so Mum and I took a walk in the morning before settling on the sofa as a family to watch Ireland play against Wales in Dublin. We had takeaway for dinner on Saturday night (first in a long time!) and then Sunday saw Granny come round for dinner.
This week, I have guitar tomorrow night after work. Then Friday night (11th February 2022) we’re headed to The Lyric to see Into The Woods on stage! Saturday will see us heading into Belfast for some retail therapy, dinner in a sports bar where we can watch Ireland play against France, and then we’re headed to see The Nutcracker in the Opera House! I’m excited to see my first ever ballet. Have you seen ballet on stage before? So Sunday is hopefully going to be a quiet day of getting through the to do list. Next week I have a half day Friday again (18th February 2022), so am going to go to the new wellness spa in Lisburn for a treatment. And the following weekend sees me back at the Opera House to see Catch Me If You Can! So February 2022 appears likely to be another busy month.
February 2022 Goals
So as you can see, it’s likely to be another rather busy month. With that in mind, I’m setting the below goals for February 2022:
- No Spend on my credit card
Self explanatory, but this is a key one for my plans for February 2022!
- Read 2 Books
Given last month’s success, this should be manageable.
- Get back to blogging.
Yup, even just sporadically!
And there you have it! My goals for February 2022. Have you set yourself any goals or targets for the month ahead? Let me know in the comments below, especially if I can help you achieve it in any way!
