AD – Own Product | So you’re thinking about Blogmas. The air is turning cool. And your thoughts are beginning to turn to the festive season. If you’re looking for a gently way to infuse some festive cheer into your day-to-day life this autumn, you need Calm By The Christmas Tree!

In case you haven’t noticed, I am a little obsessed with Christmas. It’s not the gifts and the food though, it’s the general feeling surrounding the festive season. Which really means it is of little surprise to my friends and family that my first books have been related to the most wonderful time of the year.

Today’s post is part of the Blog Tour planned for Calm By The Christmas Tree in 2021. I may be a little biased about my book, but you may wish to check out some of the review that are being shared on the hashtag on Twitter! However, I digress. Again. As I often do. Let’s dive in to Calm By The Christmas Tree!

About The Author of Calm By The Christmas Tree

Katie (that’s me!) was born and brought up between Forfar, Scotland and Lisburn, Northern Ireland, where she lives with her parents and their cat, Maisey.  Having fallen in love with reading and writing at a young age, Katie was rarely found without a book in hand and often took one into school for when she finished the classwork early.  Taking pride in having poetry published twice by the Foyle Young Poets of the Year, Katie soon turned her attention from poetry and song lyrics to writing short stories and plays for her friends to perform in front of their parents.

After years of dabbling with fictional work, Katie started her lifestyle blog (where you currently are!) as an outlet for her creative writing while at university.  Before long, her blog became Christmas orientated for the majority of the year, and it was during the lockdown of 2020 that she finally put pen to paper to write her first collection of Christmas short stories, Calm By The Christmas Tree, when she wasn’t struggling to learn guitar.

Calm By The Christmas Tree Blurb

“Christmas isn’t a season;
It’s a feeling”
– Edna Ferber

Christmas is a magical time of the year. In fact, some would go as far as to describe it as the most wonderful time of the year. One of the best parts about December is the build up to Christmas. Let your inner child be indulged, as you join author Katie Burton for her debut collection of short stories and pieces of flash fiction in the lead up to one of the busiest times of the year.

Calm By The Christmas Tree invites readers to indulge in some reflective “me-time” once every few days, spacing each story out through the month of December, and allowing them the chance to reflect on the hope, love, and magic of the festive period. From lovers’ tiffs, to making amends, and from old to young, each of Burton’s protagonists are relatable in both character and the lessons they learn.

Written for reading before bed, on your travels, or during a brief moment of peace with a comforting drink, these tales whisk you away to a world where Christmas is as magical and important as it was during your childhood. Despite the often painful realities of life, there is always a lesson to learn and a reason to celebrate.

The Story Behind The Stories

Back in August 2020, when I published my Blogmas Guide and Planner, I felt like I had half achieved something that has been on my “lifetime achievements list” for so long. But only half. Yes, I had published a book, but it wasn’t what I had always thought I would be sharing as my first piece of writing. If that makes sense? Then we were out for lunch before a family wedding, and Cameron asked if I was working on another book. I admitted that any time I started a piece of fiction I get distracted and move on. I probably had about 12 half written pieces saved on my laptop! He asked why I didn’t then combine them into a collection of short stories. Why hadn’t I thought of that??

Gathering all my previous works together, Calm By The Christmas Tree started to form. I mean, I had plenty of pieces that weren’t Christmas themed, but why break the habit of a lifetime? From that point on, I spent every available minute writing. If I wasn’t in work, with family, or blogging, I was editing old writings. I was thinking up new stories. Jumping between writing and editing, I feel like I barely slept in September last year as Calm By The Christmas Tree was coming together.

And now here we are – Calm By The Christmas Tree is almost a year old! You can purchase your own copy of Calm By The Christmas Tree in both paperback and ebook copies through the Amazon stores worldwide – not just within the UK! The Kindle e-book is available for those of you reading on your daily commute and wanting to hide the festive flame. I am also selling e-reader copies through Gumroad.

I’m so excited to have finally a piece of fiction out there in the world with my name on it. Seeing photos of people reading it. Sharing with friends and family. Getting reviews on Amazon and GoodReads. Yes, even that 1 star review. Purely because it made me think “well, someone has read it, and felt strongly enough to leave such a review!” Which may sound silly, but at least I made them feel something. Right?
