August 2020

Happy happy Saturday! It’s the first day of August, and I have decided that this is the month I really put the effort in! But before I go into the hows and whys and wherefores, it’s time to look back at July 2020 so we can look forward to August 2020! This post contains affiliate links – find out more here.

As I said in Wednesday’s post – I’m actually amazed we’re into August already! Plus the fact that means my birthday is next month, which is just terrifying. How has the year flown by this fast and yet dragged at the same time?! But let’s look back before we look ahead to August.

July 2020

The Wednesday that started July saw us at the vets with Maisie who it turns out had a growth on a blood vessel. The next day was Granny’s birthday – picnic at hers. Friday I did a food shop, Mum went car browsing, and we had drinks and dinner at The Speckled Hen – our local pub – the first day they reopened. It was a super relaxed atmosphere, with social distancing, track and trace, and everyone following the rules. It was great to get out again, and to see that people were being sensible and responsible. That Saturday, a few family members came over from Scotland for a few days, so the morning was spent cooking before collecting them from the airport and heading to Granny’s for dinner. We had our Sunday lunch back at The Speckled Hen, where again the rules were followed exactly. As our time slot for the table was up before we finished our drinks, we were moved to a table outside where we hid in a tent from the wind and the rain – it was a good laugh! Monday was my first day back to work since 24th March. To be honest, I was exhausted, and wasn’t really in the mood when I arrived home to a house of guests. Tuesday was back to work again, followed by dinner at Granny’s. Wednesday saw me and Mum head out for some shopping in the morning before we drove back up to the airport again to say our goodbyes. Thursday? Well, originally Thursday was the highlight of the month. I finally got my hair cut! And not only that, but I spent the afternoon with Paul and Lucy! We met some of Lucy’s friends for lunch/coffee, then the three of us went to a park for a nice walk and a catch up. Everything was great until my tyre pressure light came on as I was dropping them back to Lucy’s house. We checked each tyre and decided it was a problem with the sensor, but I still was very cautious when driving home again.

That Saturday we headed up to the north coast for a couple of nights away in a hotel in Ballycastle – it was beautiful! I just wish I’d remembered to take photos so I could show you. We had plenty of walks along the coast, a few drinks in the sun, and just got our heads cleared. To be honest, the best part about the whole thing was being out of our own house for the first time in months. In fact, I’m pretty sure it was my first night away in 2020! The following work week, I worked Tuesday and Wednesday, so when Mum and I were both off on the Thursday we decided to take a walk along the local river, parking at a lesser known car park and heading in the opposite direction to the majority of the people there. Maisey went in on the Friday for an operation to remove the lump on her side, and really was not a happy cat when we got her home. That weekend, we made our first return to the rugby club for Quins on the Green! It was good fun – they had drawn out grids on the grass, implemented a one way system, and set up pallets with chairs around them to act as tables. There was music, a barbecue, an outdoor bar, and good chat in the sun, so it was easy to stay a long time and enjoy the sunshine! It was then back into work again Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, Dad and I managed a food shop before I headed to see one Granny and help her with some computer admin, and then Thursday was taken up organising things for the other Granny! Friday morning came, and my car was going in for its second service – don’t start me on that though, I’m still bitter at the cost of it! As we waited for the call to say we could collect the car, Dad got a call from his friend who’s been teaching me guitar, asking if we wanted to come around for coffee. Naturally we said yes and hopped in the car, and stayed there until it was time to collect my car again. The weekend was a quiet one though, and apart from work on Monday and Tuesday, the rest of the week was taken up working on what I’ll be telling you about in my next post! Oh! I can’t remember what day, but I made my first ever affiliate sale in July!

August 2020

August 2020 sees me still part time furloughed. Which is better than having no job at all, and better than being full-time furloughed, but I do miss the routine and the fun of being in work properly.  This month is looking set to be a busy one though, so maybe that’s no bad thing. Tomorrow I’m at a blogger brunch/fundraiser – the first brunch I’ll have been to since February 2019! And as I was saying, I have an announcement coming in a paragraph or two! We have a barbecue planned with another family, in a garden where we can keep our distance but still have a good time, Rachel’s coming home for a few days, we have a family wedding (we think…) towards the end of the month, and then we have Mum and Dad flying to Scotland to end the month!

Well 3 out of 4 ain’t bad. Especially when I was writing an ebook at the same time! Shall we set some goals for August?
