July 2020

Another new month, and I’m amazed – it’s actually falling on an official posting day! How are you all this fine morning? Can anyone else not quite believe we’re into July 2020 already? It partly feels like this year has gone on forever, whilst simultaneously flying by.

July is going to be a strange posting month, but I’ll go into that in a few minutes. First up, shall we take a look back at June and what all we got up to that month?

June 2020 – Looking Back

Ah June, the first month of summer! And what looks to be my last full month of being off work – a pretty decent holiday if you ask me! Yeah sure it had its ups and downs, but here we are. You may remember that at the start of my June 2020 post I shared a few thoughts about what was taking the world by storm – the death of George Floyd and the rise of awareness of Black Lives Matter. After some reflections on myself and my “position” – for want of a better word – as a blogger with a platform, you may (hopefully) have noticed a slight change to my menus above. I had a new page go live today, and I’ll be adding more to it as time goes on. Please do take a few minutes to read it. But not until you’ve finished today’s post!

June started with my hosting a family Bingo night over Zoom (Thanks Lucy and Paul for the inspiration!) and got seeing some faces we hadn’t seen in years never mind months! Well, that was on the 4th – before that my new furniture arrived for my bedroom, so after spending a day in the garden topping up the tan, Dad and I set to building my new desk and storage units. In fact, I know it’s long overdue, but I’m hoping to get a post up soon on my new bedroom!
The following week saw not much happening. I was working on a jigsaw and on figuring out Pinterest (still not quite there but definitely better than I was!), and Mum took a few days off so we could buy a few things for the garden.

The finished jigsaw!

We had a barbecue at Granny’s, and then the following week saw me spend a lot of time working on Pinterest and my blog. When Mum finished work on the Friday, we both went to a small boutique Mum loves and I managed to get some new clothes in the sale – perfect for heading back to work! Saturday saw us head up the coastal road to Portrush for a walk on the beach for the first time in months. I then got home on time for a “Night At The Races” on Zoom with my friends, and on Sunday (Father’s Day) we just sat in an made use of the sound bar I got Dad this year by watching the remake of Dumbo before having a Chinese takeaway for dinner. The last 10 days of the month were spent on blog admin, painting another bedroom, and a wall at Granny’s, and just generally trying to sort out my sleeping pattern again before I head back to work – a bit of a fail if I do say so myself. Oh! And I reached 11,000 Twitter followers!

July 2020

July is finally looking like a bit of a different month! So tomorrow is Granny B’s birthday, meaning we will most likely go visit her with her presents in the morning, and I’ll be making her a few birthday cupcakes later this afternoon and topping them with strawberries and cream – her favourite! Then the excitement – our pubs and restaurants reopen on Friday 3rd July! So our plan is to let Mum come home from work at lunch time, and we’ll head up to the pub on Friday afternoon/evening for a drink and dinner. Now I know a lot of people will think it’s too soon for us to do it, but our local needs the support and to be honest Mum will find it extremely welcome having been the only one in our house working over the last 3 months. We have family coming to visit on the 4th July, so that’ll be nice to see more faces.

Monday 6th July sees me back in work for the first time since Tuesday 24th March and I honestly can’t put into words how excited I am to be back. For the time being, I’ll be on my own in the office, and only 2 days a week, but it’s the beginning of normality resuming, and (even though I love him to bits) I just need time out of the house without Dad. So I’ll be in the office Monday and Tuesday, and then Paul and Lucy are over for a week – so I’m hoping to see them as soon as possible! I’ve a hair appointment booked for the 9th July (the first in 18 weeks), and then on the 11th July we’re heading away for 2 nights up north to a hotel. I’ll then be working the 14th and 15th, and then to be honest I’ll be looking forward to a couple of weeks of less happening again! It’s going to be such a shock to the system actually having things to do… but July 2020 is going to be so exciting! And to add to that excitement… For July 2020, we will be stepping things up a gear and posting not just once, but twice a week! I’m so excited to share these posts with you all, so I hope you’ll be able to keep up with them. My usual Wednesday posts will stay, but I’ll be adding to that with a new post going live on Saturday morning at 7am. So set those reminders!

June Goals

June seemed a quiet month, but as we all know that can mean nothing when it comes to achieving goals. It seems, from what I’ve seen on social media, that a lot of us hit that wall this month – our moods were low, we were constantly tired, or just we all seemed to need a break from the productivity that was thrust upon us at the start of lockdown. So in light of that, let’s check in with my goals from the last 30 days.

  1. Read 1 book and finish 1 audiobook.
Well I finished an audiobook – Why I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race – but I just couldn’t get myself into reading a physical book this month. So a half point? I just couldn’t get into any of the books I tried to physically read. Maybe I just need the good weather back again to encourage me?
  2. Learn 1 new song on guitar.
I started to teach myself a song from the TV show Nashville, but because the strumming pattern is the same as the Taylor Swift song I taught myself last month, and the chord progression is kind of similar so I ended up really confusing myself. So instead, I spent the weekend just gone teaching myself Can’t Help Falling In Love With You by Elvis. It’s not too bad considering it only had a couple of hours of learning!
  3. Post weekly here (because I’ve got the time to).
Check! I’m quite pleased with my posting routine in the last few months – and my views are increasing monthly because I’m finally being consistent!
  4. Blog admin for July, August and September 2016.
Well I managed to do the blog admin for July and August, but I was really lazy when it came to this. I basically just updated the SEO for each post or deleted the ones that no longer fitted. The next time I’m doing blog admin the plan is to actually add Pinterest images and get them pinned to my boards!
  5. Get my bedroom finished!
Yes! This is done! So keep your eyes peeled for the new post coming out soon to give you a tour of my room! I’ll link it here when it goes live.

So that was 4 out of 5 – not a bad result! I gave myself 2 half marks…

July 2020 Goals

Right so as I said, this month is going to be a little different. So let’s set some goals…

  1. Post twice a week.
  2. Read 1 book.
  3. Increase my blogging stats.
  4. Workout at least 3 times a week.

Hey :) I'm 24, from Northern Ireland and no longer new to blogging. I love all things TV, books, food, music and film as well as going out with friends. This is hopefully somewhere you'll be able to come if you feel you need a laugh or even just to stay in touch. Life can be hard and confusing, so

  1. It sounds like you had quite a productive June even if it was quiet! Sometimes relaxing things like doing a jigsaw are just what we need – I love jigsaws but haven’t done one in ages! Good luck with all of your July goals – I will be setting myself some too but I’ve been a bit disorganised and haven’t worked out what they will be yet – that will be my task for this morning!

  2. Looks like you’ve had quite the June – you always seem extremely busy! Echo Sophie’s comment, best of luck for July and well done on the new page. I need to learn how to have add specific blog posts to separate pages but I’m finding it so hard! 🙁
