Goodbye February

And hello March! Is it just me or did February seem to pass really slowly compared to other months? It feels a lot longer ago than 4 weeks that I was off uni feeling sick.

Through out February, we had a friend come stay with us while her flat was being fixed from the storms. Jason and I managed to attend 3 out of 4 LGBTQ+ events and managed to make a few new friends. I went home for a few days to catch up with the family and meet our new addition. We had 2 separate musicals nights, both on Thursdays to try and cheer us up about an awful week of deadlines. There was the first 21st birthday out of all our friends, I went to Dundee for a weekend with an eventful ending and to top it all off I have a date in less than 60 hours!

So amongst all that, there were the month’s goals to work on. I was very good at keeping up with work this month, making sure I had the notes if I was stupid enough to skip a lecture. Saving money wasn’t great but I did only have 2 takeaways this month. We’re working on it. I went to Irish Dancing every week it was on and am now looking into buying the hard shoes for the new dances we’ll be learning. Fingers crossed it works out! Sleep wasn’t a great one either but again we can deal with that slowly and surely.
This month I look forward to trying new goals, or reviving old ones. I want to do better at them and achieve them.

  • Go to as many socials and events as possible. It seems I can actually talk to people if I try hard enough, and for some unknown reason these people seem to like me! Hence, date.
  • Keep up with work again. I have now picked an essay title for Fundamentals of Education so no longer need to attend the lectures. However this is not a licence to lie in bed for an extra hour. Make use of the time either with reading for the essay or preparing for other classes and homework.
  • Go to Irish Dancing as frequently as possible. I love going and although it gives me sore shins I just can’t seem to get enough of it.
  • Read 1 new book and 1 old book this month. While I have my goal of reading all the Harry Potter books again, I also want to try and read new books if only to say I’ve read them.
  • Tidy and clean even once a week. I’m currently sitting on my bed surveying the state my room is in. There’s no excuse, it’s just laziness. And that’s why I plan on tidying it and cleaning it fully today.

With only 3 weeks until I go home for Easter, it’s important that I try hard at these goals. Exams are just around the corner!

So I shall say goodbye for now, enjoy your extra day. Make it count whatever you do!

Respect…

… for yourself. Respecting yourself can mean multiple things. Having the respect to treat your body properly through sleep, exercise and hygiene. It can also mean to not let yourself be pressured into something you don’t want to do. Stand by your principles and any decisions you make – just because someone disagrees doesn’t mean you should ignore your opinions. Be able to forgive yourself whenever you feel you’ve disrespected yourself. Don’t insult or harm yourself – when was the last time you purposefully hurt a friend, whether physically or emotionally, and would you consider it acceptable to do the same to yourself? Be completely honest with yourself. The only person you hurt when lying is yourself. Remember this. Accept the things you can’t change about yourself, they’re with you for life whether you want them or not!
… for others. Treat them the way you would like to be treated. Don’t put people down or hurt them. Forgive them if they’ve done something against you. Listen to them, even if they’re talking complete nonsense. Keep promises you make. Be on time for things, or at least be apologetic if you’re in the wrong. Have some manners. A simple please or thank you can go a long long way. Ask before borrowing. Encourage your friend or colleague or family member to do that thing they’ve been talking about for ages and be supportive while they try it out. Remember, people don’t have to respect you any more than you respect them. If you treat others with respect, they’ll do the same for you.
… for property. Whether it belongs to you or to a friend, property deserves respect. If you borrow something, ask first, thank the person, and where applicable return it in the same condition it reached you in. If you finish something, replace it. Don’t wait until the last possible chance to return or replace things. Treat someone else’s property as if it were your own. Would you dance on your own £200 table tennis table? No? Then why does being drunk count as an excuse for dancing on someone else’s? Why turn down the page of a book when you can use a scrap piece of paper as a bookmark?

These are the 3 basic rules my sister and I grew up with. It seems a few people weren’t taught these simple values and so it begins to irritate others.
Sorry for having a bit of a rant but I thought this needed shared. On a brighter note, a friend of a friend is part of a band and it would be great if you were to give them a listen! They’re called Tacado and can be found at any of the links below. Even if they’re not your type, please spread word to anyone you know who may like them!

Listen to Fading Colours – Single by Tacado on @AppleMusic.

Or here on YouTube

It’s currently the only song on iTunes or YouTube but I have been promised there are more to come.
Hope you had a good weekend!

It’s Friday!!

Well I know a lot of people hate this song but I also know it’s the first song that runs through my head when my alarm goes off on a Friday morning. With only one class left to go to today, it’s feeling more and more like the weekend with each minute. What’re you’re plans?

Yes yes I have a test in an hour and a half and, even though I spent most of yesterday revising for it, I feel like I’m going to fail. But that’s not going to kill my mood!
Last night Mary, Jason and I watched Into The Woods and Mamma Mia, the former because who doesn’t like Chris Pine and Anna Kendrick? The latter because ABBA. This kicked off my great mood and it hasn’t really left since.
Well I suppose I’d better go but I’ll leave you with these, enjoy your weekend!!

Wednesday again

Hello one and all!
It seems every Wednesday around this time I sit down to send you a message, let me explain why that trend is occurring. On a Wednesday I should be in for a 9-5 day at uni, should being the key word there. Maths at 9am when you’ve been awake until 2 reading your seminar readings for the next day. Once you finish those readings you tend to remember that you need lunch for Wednesday and there’s normally a complicated pre-lab question or two to add to the mix. And of course you need to get up early to shower on Wednesday because of your exercise on Tuesday. Showering on Tuesday is out of the question by the time you’ve finished work. So most Wednesday mornings I wake up having had approximately 4 hours of sleep.

The last few weeks I’ve decided to sleep through maths and just go in from 11-5 for uni. Those extra two hours of warmth in bed make all the difference!
I’ve just lost track of where this post was going due to the fact a rather attractive girl just sat down beside me. Help!

Home again home again

Hello once more! I write to you now from the desk in the corner of my bedroom as I wait for my antivirus software to install on my laptop. Always remember something to put off going to bed.
Having been home for a few days, I’m now refreshed and ready to get back to Glasgow. With only 6 weeks left of lectures (where does time go??) I have a load of work I’ve been avoiding by being home. Not that I’ve slacked off! We have a physics report due on Wednesday that we work in pairs for. Unfortunately, my partner doesn’t seem keen on replying to my emails and messages asking for her input so if we get a bad mark she can’t blame me. There’s also a physics test on Friday. I’m considering how much revision I need to do.
Tomorrow I don’t think I’ll make it to Irish dancing due to this report and shopping and everything else that needs done. Kind of sad because I’ve actually been enjoying going!
Maisie, the kitten, is very cute but also very picky on when she’ll bother with you. After ignoring us the majority of today, she of course chose bedtime to want to play. Here she is!

Baron seems to like her but she’s terrified of him. Speaking of Baron, he’s gradually getting better. Still not 100% but he is getting there! The difference between Christmas and now is brilliant.
I’ve got an old episode of Lewis on while I’m waiting to finish up packing. Takes so much time and hassle! Not sure if everything will fit in the bag, thankfully easyjet don’t weigh hand luggage. Don’t think I’d be allowed on.

The plan of attack for tomorrow is to get back to the flat before heading to Fundamentals of Education then physics. However that was when I planned on going to the library with my lab partner. That’s not happening unless she actually communicates with me. So I’ll let you know how that goes.
Good night!

On the road again…

Once again, I find myself writing packing lists and trying to cram a week’s worth of clothing into a carry-on bag measuring 56cmx45cmx20cm. The real worry is always the liquid allowance – the time when every woman has to choose between her makeup and her shampoo.

I read somewhere once that you can “click and collect” your toiletries at the airport in order to save the problem of security and it also saves you spending the over the top on the items in the airport. This of course is continuing along the theme of student budgeting.

Now I know a lot of people argue that students go home to be spooky by their families and to be bought things as frequently as possible but here’s one student who likes to provide for herself!
Ironing is completed and the outfits are in the carry-on case. I’ve added my reading (And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, hopefully a good read) and, ever hopeful, my sunglasses are tucked away in a neat little pocket. One thing I simply must do is find my passport. This happens every time I travel. I come back and put away the passport in a safe place with my driving licence and then proceed to lose them both the next time I need them.
For a change I am actually looking forward to going home for a while. I think I need either out of the flat or out of Glasgow. I’ve grown restless here for some reason this semester, possibly with the change in second semester dynamics now that I’m experiencing it without Kelsey and Nikki, our exchange students last year. It’s not the company I miss, think it’s having people I can go chat to whenever, instead I come to you all here on WordPress. Not that I’m complaining! Still having a great time and couldn’t complain about life really, I think that’s why I feel restless instead of anything else – I’m genuinely loving this year. Something just feels off within me if that makes any sense.
There’s nothing really to talk about though, I think I really am just restless and needing reminded  as to why I try and escape the family as frequently as I do. Only time will tell! One slight problem at the minute is the amount I’ve been thinking about relationships, and I’ve been especially broody recently. Not exactly a great combination when you’re as single as possible and as far away from having kids as is possible. All of this isn’t helped by rewatching BBC’s Call The Midwife!
So with that, I’ll sign off and leave you all in peace.

Speak soon!
